The following is a statement from George Goehl, Executive Director of National People’s Action, on the proposed Congressional Budget Deal:

“This week’s budget agreement is just more of the same from Congress—a short-sighted deal that puts corporate bottom lines above the well-being of America’s workers and an overburdened middle class.

Rather than closing corporate tax loopholes—a measure supported by 67% of Americans—this deal will cut pensions to federal workers, stagnate unemployment benefits, and continue to exempt corporations from paying their fair share. It’s time for Congress to start thinking beyond the budget crisis directly in front of them and consider measures that will solve not just this showdown, but the ones that are bound to emerge in the future as well.  And that means having corporations pull their weight by closing corporate tax loopholes.”
