NPA Urges President Obama To Take Bold Action To End Deportations

Yesterday, President Obama met with leaders from the Congressional Hispanic Conference and announced plans to review the administration’s deportation enforcement policies. The following is a statement from George Goehl, executive director of National People’s Action:

"We are encourage that the President is reviewing ways he can use the power of his office to halt the record number of deportation that have occurred during his tenure. The announcement is a testament to the power and perseverance of immigrant rights groups.

A review, however, is no substitute for direct executive action or the passage of legislation that would provide a path to citizenship for 11 million immigrants. We urge the President to use every legal means at his discretion to immediately halt deportations and call on legislators in the House to stop obstructing the passage of immigration reform legislation."
