Supreme Court Ruling Puts Profits & Polluters Before People

Chicago, IL -- In light of the Supreme Court's ruling in Michigan v. Environmental Protection Agency, George Goehl, executive director of National People's Action, issued the following statement:

"Today, the Supreme Court put profits and polluters before people, endangering the health of our communities. Fortunately, the ruling has little to do with the Environmental Protection Agency's Clean Power Plan, which draws on a different section of the Clean Air Act. The Clean Power Plan offers a historic opportunity to tackle climate change, while creating green jobs that can reduce inequality. National People's Actions and our affiliates around the country are ready to fight for state plans that put people and planet first by shifting toward renewable energy sources, reducing pollution, reducing energy costs, creating clean energy jobs and making sure that these benefits apply to low-income communities and People of Color, who bear the brunt of pollution, energy costs and the impacts of climate change."
